Big Rock 2026 Is Calling: Offshore Season Starts Here

May 28th 2026

There’s just something different about Big Rock week. Maybe it’s the sound of diesel engines firing up before daylight. Maybe it’s the chaos at the docks when a blue marlin hits the scales. Or maybe it’s just the fact that for one week every summer, the entire North Carolina coast feels locked in on one thing…offshore fishing. The 68th Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is set for June 2026, and if you know, you know. Boats, bait, salt spray, cold drinks, sunburns, packed marinas, and stories that somehow get bigger every night. Around here, Big Rock marks the start of summer.

Offshore Season Hits Different

Big Rock isn’t only about million-dollar fish and leaderboard updates. It’s about the atmosphere surrounding the entire week. You’ve got crews rigging baits before sunrise, restaurants packed wall-to-wall after weigh-ins, and people lined up at the docks hoping the next boat backing in is carrying a tournament leader. Even if you never step foot on a boat, the energy around Morehead City during Big Rock week is worth experiencing. And if you are headed offshore? You already know preparation matters. Long days in the sun, changing conditions, rough water, and unpredictable weather can make or break a trip. Having dependable gear isn’t optional.

Gear We’re Packing for Big Rock Week

Whether you’re fishing the tournament, riding along, or spending the week around the coast, here’s what earns a spot in the lineup:

Performance Fishing Apparel

Lightweight hoodies, breathable tees, and sun-protective layers are mandatory once the heat cranks up offshore.

Polarized Sunglasses

Because spotting bait, floating grass lines, or birds from a distance matters and squinting all day isn’t it.

Coolers & Drinkware

Long boat days require cold drinks and plenty of ice. Period.

Waterproof Bags & Boat Gear

Saltwater finds its way into everything. Keep your essentials protected.

Coastal Lifestyle Apparel

Because half of Big Rock week happens after the boats hit the docks.

Big Rock Week Isn’t Just For Anglers

One of the best things about Big Rock is that the entire town gets involved. Families walk the docks every evening waiting for weigh-ins. Restaurants stay packed. Live music spills out onto the waterfront. Kids run around with tournament shirts three sizes too big and melted ice cream in their hands. It’s competitive, chaotic, loud, and somehow still laid back at the same time. That’s what keeps people coming back every year.

The Dock Talk Is Half The Fun

If you’ve ever stood around the scales during weigh-ins, you already know. Everybody suddenly becomes a fishing expert.

“How big do you think it is?”
“That fish looked bigger on the boat.”
“They should’ve stayed on that temperature break.”

And honestly? That’s part of what makes Big Rock special.
